Description

This module introduces the student to a variety of essential facts, principles and concepts from different areas of Biology focusing on the following topics: 1.Characteristics and classification of living organisms.2.Biological molecules and processes (e.g. carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, enzymes, DNA, photosynthesis and respiration) 3.Cells (e.g. prokaryotes and eukaryotes; organelles; specialised cells; levels of organisation)4.Genetics, inheritance and evolution (e.g. mitosis and meiosis, reproduction, mutation and evolution, genetic engineering; stem cells; model organisms).
